Milwich Ward member for Stafford Borough Council, since 2007.
Frances has a strong reputation as a spokesperson for rural communities and businesses. She campaigns relentlessly on countryside issues. A Borough Councillor for 18 years, she specialises in town and country planning, not least the challenges in bringing our towns back to life in an internet age. As a former business woman she is a knowledgeable champion for enterprise growth. She cares profoundly about our environment and reverting the excesses of man made damage; she chaired the government's Cannock Chase Joint Management board for 13 years, charged with safeguarding the precious international protections for the rare and precious ecology of the Chase. And she was a board member of Peak District National Park Authority for 10 years. Frances takes a special interest in heritage and historic conservation, closely involved with the Staffordshire Yeomanry Museum and the William Salt Library, now part of the Staffordshire History Centre. She has been a governor of Harper Adams University and a founder member of Engaging Communities, responsible for managing Healthwatch in the county, holding NHS services to account after the Stafford Hospital debacle.
Having served as portfolio holder for Economic Development and Planning for 13 years at the Borough Council, she now chairs the council’s Economic and Planning Scrutiny Committee, responsible for enterprise and development.
At ward level Frances is always on hand to pick up constituents' problems with the council; and follow through issues and ideas raised by parish councils. Always contactable, she serves as a useful signpost to help and advice. Throughout the conservative administration council tax and business rates have been kept low. Frances can be guaranteed to hold the current administration to account as these local taxes are now visibly rising above inflation.
